St Louis CITY2 (8-2-2) scored two unanswered goals in the second half against cross-state rivals Sporting KC II (5-6-2) to secure a 2-1 comeback win, on Friday, June 17 at Rock Chalk Park. CITY2 moved into second place in the Western Conference following their eighth win of the season.

CITY2 controlled the opening minutes of the first half but despite their dominance, it was Sporting KC II who took the early lead in the 14th minute against the run of play. CITY2 searched for the equalizer but went into the halftime break a goal down.

After recovering the ball from a corner kick, Célio Pompeu whipped in a cross that found Max Schneider who tapped home from close range to level the game in the 64th minute. Two minutes later, Karson Gibbs, who had just entered the match, was brought down in the penalty area. Schneider stepped up and coolly placed the penalty kick in the bottom corner to give CITY2 the 2-1 lead.

CITY2 held on for the final 25 minutes to improve their away record to 4-0-1, and defeat Sporting KC II for the second time away this season.

Schneider’s goals mean he has now had four goal contributions in the last three matches after recording an assist in CITY2’s games against Rapids 2 and Chicago Fire II. CITY2 will take their six-match unbeaten streak home when they welcome Real Monarchs on Saturday, June 25 at Ralph Korte Stadium, which will also mark CITY2's first-ever Pride Night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CST with coverage on mlsnextpro.com.
